Matthew 24:10 (NKJV) “And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another.” Luke 17:1 (NLT) Jesus said to his disciples: “Things that cause people to stumble are bound to come…”

Cleaning House

Seven Days Pt. 2 | March 3rd, 2024 Mark 11:15-19 (GNT) When they arrived in Jerusalem, Jesus went to the Temple and began to drive out all those who were buying and selling. He overturned the tables of the moneychangers and the stools of those who sold pigeons, and he would not let anyone carry anything through the Temple courtyards. He then taught the people: “It is written in the Scriptures that God said, ‘My Temple will be called a house of prayer for the people of all nations.’ But you have turned it into a hideout for thieves!” The chief priests and the teachers of the Law heard of this, so they began looking for some way to kill Jesus. They were afraid of him, because the whole crowd was amazed at his teaching. When evening came, Jesus and his disciples left the city. ✓ Unhealthy Pace Psalm 23:1 (NKJV) The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. ✓ Unhealthy Passion Ultimately, nothing in this life, apart from God, can satisfy our desires. Tragically, we continue to chase after our desires endlessly. The result? A chronic state of restlessness or, worse, angst, anger, anxiety, disillusionment, depression—all of which lead to a life of hurry, a life of busyness, overload, shopping, materialism, careerism, a life of more…which in turn makes us even more restless. And the cycle spirals out of control. - John Mark Comer Hebrews 12:1 (GNT) So then, let us rid ourselves of everything that gets in the way, and of the sin which holds on to us so tightly, and let us run with determination the race that lies before us. CLEANING HOUSE I. INVITE JESUS INTO YOUR MESS. Revelation 3:20 (TLB) Look! I have been standing at the door, and I am constantly knocking. If anyone hears me calling him and opens the door, I will come in and fellowship with him and he with me. II. ALLOW JESUS TO CLEANSE YOUR LIFE. I John 1:7-9 (NLT) If we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.

My One Response

Seven Days Pt. 1 | February 25, 2024 John 3:16 (NIV) For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Romans 5:8 (NIV) But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Luke 19:29-40 (NIV) As he approached Bethphage and Bethany at the hill called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it.’” Those who were sent ahead went and found it just as he had told them. As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?” They replied, “The Lord needs it.” They brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it. As he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road. When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen: “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!” “I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.” The only response to Jesus’ coming is worship. ✓ Our Need for Control ✓ Expectations from Others ✓ Our Expectations of God MY ONE RESPONSE I. TAKE OFF THE CLOAK - OUR SIGN OF VULNERABILITY Exodus 22:26-27 (NIV) If you take your neighbor’s cloak as a pledge, return it by sunset, because that cloak is the only covering your neighbor has. What else can they sleep in? When they cry out to me, I will hear, for I am compassionate. II. SPREAD IT ON THE ROAD - OUR SIGN OF LOYALTY Luke 19:36 (NIV) As he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road. III. WORSHIP HIM - OUR SIGN OF DEVOTION Psalm 34:1-3 (KJV) I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.
